Nagano is the base for touring the Japan Alps mountain range, but it is known for more than just a gateway to the snow. This area is equally famous for onsen (hot springs), temples and castles, with a rich samurai heritage. Takayama is a small town in the middle of the Japan alps, full of culture and seemingly lost in history. A day trip away is Shirakawago, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Marvel at Japan’s picturesque scenery in the village famous for its thatched roof farmhouses. The towns and the nature in Central Japan change face with the change in seasons. It will enchant you whichever season you visit.
