Visit the historic World Heritage listed villages of Gokayama and Shirakawago. These villages are famous for their farmhouses constructed in the traditional “Gassho-zukuri” style. This style is characterised by a steeply slanting thatched roof resembling two hands joined in prayer. The remaining farmhouses have been well preserved along with a unique way of life untouched for centuries. Its serene picturesque scenery will linger in your mind.

Gokayama Ainokura Village (50 min)
Enjoy a guided tour in Ainokura. Located in the Gokayama region, this World Heritage site has just under 20 gassho-zukuri style, thatched roof farmhouses – most of them 100 to 200 years old. Ainokura is quieter and has less tourist traffic than Shirakawago allowing you to savour the tranquil, idyllic scenery.

Shirakawago Village and Open-air Museum of Gassho-Zukuri Minka-en (120 min)
