Experience the former capital of Japan from 794 to 1868 on the Kyoto 1 day tour. Learn about its 1,200 year past and immerse yourself in the history of ancient Japan. Visit the most famous and beautiful sights in Kyoto, the world heritage listed sites of Kinkakuji Temple and Nijo Castle. See the marvelous wooden structure of Kiyomizudera and the amazing, hand-carved wooden statues at Sanjusangendo Temple. Stroll around the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of Japan’s oldest and most important Shinto shrines. A Japanese set meal will be served for lunch.

Nijo Castle (50 min)
Nijo Castle was built in 1603 as the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo period. This is one of the best examples of castle architecture of Japan’s feudal era.

Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) (45 min)
Kinkakuji Temple, officially named Rokuonji Temple, is one of the most famous temples in the world, and is a symbol of Kyoto. Its top two stories are completely covered in pure gold leaf.

Kyoto Imperial Palace (40 min)
Kyoto Imperial Palace was the residence of the Imperial family until 1868, when the emperor and capital were moved to Tokyo.

Lunch

Fushimi Inari Taisha (30 min)
One of Japan’s oldest and most important Shinto shrines. You’ll be captivated by the thousands of vermillion torii gates.

Sanjusangendo Temple (30 min)
The main hall contains 1,001 life-sized, hand-carved wooden statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy with 11 faces and a thousand arms. See an extraordinary level of craftsmanship. The main hall itself, with a length of 120 metres, is the longest wooden structure in Japan.

Kiyomizudera Temple (70 min)
Kiyomizudera Temple, founded in 780, is well known for its wooden stage in the front of the main hall which extends out over the cliff. Its excellent location provides you with a sweeping view of Kyoto.

17:30 ~ 18:30 The tour will finish at Kyoto Station.

*Notes:
1. Kyoto Imperial Palace is closed on Mondays, National Holidays, Tuesdays (if Monday is a National Holiday), and the year end. During these dates, the tour will visit Kitano-tenmangu Shrine instead. This is also the case during the period before and after the public viewing of the Kyoto Imperial Palace in April and October, and from May 14 to May 17 during the Aoi Festival, as well as when there is an Imperial Household event.
* Nishi Honganji Temple will be visited on some dates instead of Kitano-tenmangu Shrine.
2. Nijo Castle is closed on every Tuesday in January, July, August, December and the year end. During these dates, the tour will visit Ryoanji Temple instead.
3. Drop off service to Karasuma Kyoto Hotel and Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto cannot be provided during the Gion Festival (July 15 – 16) due to traffic restrictions.
4. Connection to the Kyoto Maiko Dinner or the Kyoto Night Tour is available at Kyoto Hotel Okura.
5. Please note that due to repair and restoration work, part of the main hall of Kiyomizudera Temple may not be visible.
6. A set menu meal will be served for lunch. Please make sure to inform us at the time of booking if you would like a vegetarian meal. Requests made on the day of the tour cannot be accepted.
