Mt Koya is one of the most sacred mountains in Japan, located in a 900 metre high valley in Wakayama. This temple network began in 816 and is home to Okunoin Temple, the mausoleum of Koyasan’s founder, Kobo Daishi. Danjo Garan is a temple complex at the heartland of Koyasan. Close by, Kongobuji Temple is the headquarters of Shingon Buddhism. There are 117 temples along the streets of Koyasan and more than half of them have shukubo, temple lodging. Experience the unique spiritual atmosphere at Koyasan.

Okunoin Temple (70 min)
The site of the mausoleum of Kobo Daishi, one of Buddhism’s most important persons. Across the Ichinohashi Bridge starts Okunoin’s cemetery amongst the ancient cedar forest. A 2km long approach with over 200,000 tombstones leads to Kobo Daishi’s mausoleum.
Danjo Garan Temple Complex [Konpon Daito & Main Hall] (75 min)
A temple complex home to the vermilion lacquered Konpon Daito, a magnificent 48 metre tall pagoda, and Kondo, the Main Hall, originally built in 819.
From Koyasan Station to Gokurakubashi Station
18:00~18:30 The tour will end at Nankai Namba Station.
